Chatsworth New Makers

Designers including Max Lamb, Junko Mori and Ptolemy Mann are making pieces inspired by Chatsworth’s State Rooms as part of a new show at the country house.

Ptolemy Mann created a textile installation, while other work includes a steel chandelier by Junko Mori and this ash bed, created by Joseph Walsh.

Modern Makers is at the New Gallery, Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Derbyshire DE45, from 18 September-23 December.

Northern Girl

The Gateway Gallery, based on Prestbury Road, Macclesfield, recently awarded a prize in the Stockport Open Art Exhibition to Shelia Vaughan.

Vaughan’s portrait, the “Northern Girl”, was up against hundreds of entries from all around Cheshire. Her success is an even greater achievement given that she is largely self taught. Despite this she has exhibited at the People’s Gallery, Stalybridge, at the Millyard Gallery in Uppermill and for 6 consecutive years at the Mall Galleries in London, as part of the Society of Women Artists.

David Mellor Street Scene

Catch the new permanent David Mellor Street Scene exhibition from 8th September 2013 within the woodland area of the David Mellor museum at Hathersage. Featuring pieces such as 1965-9 traffic lights and signal boxes, the Abacus street lighting column and the shelved designs for a square pillar post box, the pieces showcase the designer’s aim to improve everyday public street scenes.
